Good morning, morning glories! Today we are going to talk about morning routines: specifically, why lemon water is so important in the morning.
As part of my morning routine for many years, I’ve included drinking lemon water daily. On days I skip, I notice the difference. The taste of the lemon water is so refreshing (sometimes sour), but I notice it’s just the tonic to wake me up and enliven me first thing.
So first off, why lemon water? 1/2 to 1 lemon squeezed into a couple glasses of water helps to alkalize the body.
Why lemon water is so important in the morning
Lemon juice helps alkalize
While we are sleeping, our digestive system becomes more acidic as we break down the foods we ate the day before. Upon waking it’s essential to revitalize our body – and alkalize.
Lemon water flushes out toxins
A second reason is that our bodies are overloaded with toxins from our environment and our diets. Even if we have switched over to a clean diet, we still have old guck in our systems that we need to get out.
This is where lemon water comes in handy. The lemon juice added to the water helps flush out the old stored toxins in our body, leading to an overall feeling of wellness and a boosted immunity.
Lemon nourishes the liver
It’s also a nourisher for our liver – which tends to take the burden and can become overworked over time. The lemon helps to soothe and flush out harmful particles gently, so that we can restore our health to optimum levels.
So, how do you include more lemon into your daily regiment? Start with the morning! After scraping your tongue and brushing your teeth, include 1/2 to 1 lemon, juiced, into 16 ounces of water. It’s as simple as that!
For an extra cleansing boost, try drinking this tea at bedtime. It’s soothing and delicious and completely knocks me out for the night.
